Literature Presentation

Description
In order to gain greater awareness of the background knowledge and research literature related to your semester project, you and your project team will select, read, and present to your class a summary of the main points of one of the readings from the research literature.

Instructions
Presentation Preparation
  1. Select ten (10) readings related your project for presentation.
  2. You and your entire team will each individually read ten different readings per week.
  3. Blog about that week’s reading each week and also upload the blog entry to eLearning.
  4. Have a designated team member for that week present that week’s reading to the class (or at least your project team and TA/instructor).
  5. The presentation should last five (5) minutes or less, and should be rotated to a different team member each week.
Entry Format
Blog entries will consist of the following components.
  • Entry Title:
    • Title of reading
  • Reference Information:
    • Title of reading
    • Name(s) of author(s)
    • Source of reading (e.g., conference, journal)
  • Summary:
    • Brevity: Writing should be as short as possible, Length should be appropriate: between a paragraph and a page.
    • Clarity: Writing should be clear and understandable to someone who hasn’t read the book.
    • Completeness:
      • Writing should include main/significant/important concepts from book.
      • Writing should function as a reference: If you later need to access information from the book, it should be in the summary.
      • Writing should include information necessary to implement ideas.
    • Discussion:
      • Why is this reading interesting or significant?
      • What are the faults of this work?
      • What are the possible applications for this work (i.e., taking some of these ideas and applying them to others’/your work)?
    • Additional Criteria
      • Effort is shown.
      • Does not include opinionated information.
      • Is useful and follows the above five requirements.
      • Contains a useful picture.
      • Insightful and interesting discussion.
Grading Rubric
Students who complete their blog entries on time and include the information as outlined above will receive full credit. We will be reading your entries, so make sure that you include actual, and honest, updates
